Transcending Boundaries
My work reflects my need to transcend boundaries. It recognizes the moving out of spaces that are one dimensional to that which is unconventional and perhaps non-structural. I have deliberately placed colors together that are commonly perceived as a mismatch and hence unacceptable, or patterns that are not in sync with each other, and created a mosaic out of them to produce new versions of the way in which the world can be viewed, particularly in terms of identity and beliefs.
Through my art, I am exploring other realities, contributing to new meaning, dissolving many self-imposed barriers and those imposed by others, creating acceptance of what and who is different, and taking a few steps further in the long journey to emancipate my own being. Each piece in the mosaic moves in that direction and represents for me people who come together as part of a mosaic, the relativity and fluidity of which renders them the power to transcend boundaries and collectively form community.
